Grant PUD Commissioners approve 2011 budget and finalize rate increase distribution

EPHRATA, Wash. – Grant PUD Commissioners approved the utility’s $477 million 2011 budget, which includes $4.6 million in additional cuts by commissioners.

The budget contains a range of rate increases for each of the utility’s customer classes. Beginning on February 1, Grant PUD customers, on average, will see the following increases:

Customer Class

Percentage Increase

Residential

4.0%

Commercial

5.0%

Irrigation

5.4%

Large Commercial

7.3%

Small Industrial

9.4%

Large Industrial

5.8%

Ag Food Processor

8.9%

Ag Food Processor – Boiler

For the average residential customer, the increase represents an additional $3 a month.

The decisions on budget and rates follow months of discussion and deliberation by the board on both the size of the total budget and the amount of the rate increase to each of the utility’s customer classes.

“Commissioners and staff worked hard to trim the budget to very lean levels, said Grant PUD General Manager, Tim Culbertson. “My message to staff has been clear – we’re going to do more with less.”
