Grant PUD Celebrates Public Power Week

EPHRATA, WA - Grant County PUD celebrates Public Power Week, Oct. 5-11, with more than 2,000 other electric utilities across the country that collectively provide electricity on a non-profit basis to 45 million Americans.  Grant PUD serves more than 43,000 customers.  All residents of Grant County are both customers and owners of this utility, able to exercise a voice in utility decisions.

Public Power Week is an opportunity for Grant PUD to celebrate the benefits of having a locally-controlled utility that provides safe, reliable public power together with the clean, renewable, low-cost hydropower produced by Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams.

”Electricity is one of the most important elements in the everyday and business life of American citizens.  At Grant PUD, we are committed not only to continue our legacy of quality service to Grant County, but to look for opportunities to improve operations and ensure sufficient power for local citizens in the future,” said Tim Culbertson, general manager.

Grant PUD was created in 1938.  Today it has more that 600 employees, owns two hydro dams on the Columbia River and provides a wholesale fiber optic distribution system to bring high-speed technology to Grant County schools, medical facilities, businesses and homes.

Public power is an important American institution that is good for consumers, business, the community and the nation.
