Grant PUD rate increase delayed
No increases in 2009 but structure of rate classes may be modified
July 10, 2008
EPHRATA, WA – During their scheduled rate workshop July 9, Grant PUD commissioners decided to delay any overall rate increase for Grant County electric customers. Previously, commissioners discussed a potential rate increase in 2009, but delayed that decision due to higher
revenue projections due to a good water year with unanticipated higher wholesale power prices and more precise budget predictions showing expenses to be lower than expected in the coming years.
The commission was unanimous in their decision, and they agreed to continue their in-depth review of specific rate classifications. Commissioners will use the remainder of 2008 to hold discussions with customer classes that may be impacted by potential adjustments to their current rate structures. Specifically, irrigation and industrial customers can look forward to public workshops followed by possible modifications to those customer classifications in 2008 or 2009. Structural changes will not increase revenue from any class, but there may be changes for some customers within rate classes.
Rate workshops with individual customer classifications will be advertised and posted on the Grant PUD Web site. Commissioners and staff encourage all interested parties to participate in this ongoing dialogue.
