Have a Good Time.

Your Grant County PUD places a high priority on public safety on our project. We want you to enjoy the reservoirs but also be aware of safety hazards and dangerous conditions involving water level fluctuations caused by river flow, submerged hazards and reservoir elevation changes.

Upstream. Where the buoys are.

The key thing to remember when visiting both Priest Rapids and Wanapum Dams is, keep a respectful distance from the safety barriers that have been installed at the upstream approaches of both dams. DO NOT go beyond the buoys under any circumstances! The barriers are there to protect you from dangers caused by sudden, violent wind changes (which could sweep your boat past the buoys), high water velocity and turbulence near the turbine generator water intakes. In the event someone you are boating with gets in trouble and goes beyond the barriers, notify the control room immediately. We have trained personnel to handle emergency situations.

Downstream. Beware of dangerous turbulence.

It is very important to keep clear of the downstream side of the dams as well. The spillway gates can open at any time without warning, discharging large volumes of water. The water creates turbulence and current that can capsize your vessel.

Warning signs.

Warning signs and markers were created for your safety. It is imperative to your safety that you take all warning signs seriously.

Please be safe, not sorry.
