Fish in the Project
More than 40 species of fish swim the waters of the Priest Rapids Project area, including individuals from 14 of the 24 recognized families of North American freshwater fishes. Among these species are both anadromous and resident fish.
As part of an ongoing effort to safely pass fish through the Priest Rapids Project, Grant PUD and its staff of fishery biologist and scientists, work collaboratively with local fishery agencies and tribes to study the behavior of fish passing through the Project In addition to construction of a state-of-the-art fish bypass facility and installation of new turbines at Wanapum Dam, Grant PUD is developing or otherwise providing funding for hatchery facilities throughout the region to augment local salmon populations.
