Life in Grant County

Why move to Grant County? The answer is clear. With 300 days of sunshine each year and four distinct seasons, it’s the best of the Northwest – with less rain! You will find we have some of the most welcoming communities around.
Only a few hours’ drive from Seattle or Spokane, Grant County provides that hometown feel with easy access to big city attractions. Located in the heart of the Columbia Basin, Grant County offers plenty of annual events to keep you busy. From local community festivals to concerts overlooking the Columbia River at the Gorge Amphitheatre, there are always things to do right here at home.

Sun, sand and abundant water in Grant PUD’s Priest Rapids Project make summer a season of fun with camping, hiking and water sports galore. Over 200 bird species call Grant County home and ornithology is a popular pastime. Two of the largest floods in history (one of lava and one of water) together with the vast Columbia Basin Irrigation Project create a once-barren landscape now traced with unique lakes, ponds and waterways. The Columbia River and vast miles of irrigation waterways make the county optimal for kayaking, fishing, hunting and every water sport imaginable. Orchards, vineyards and locally grown fresh produce fuel several wineries and a thriving food processing industry.

Community theatre, music festivals and active performing arts organizations add a cultural environment unique to the area. Grant PUD’s development of a wholesale fiber optic distribution system brings high-speed Internet connectivity to many area businesses and homes. The county population is expanding rapidly thanks to new industrial development and a recent high-tech boom, bringing data centers for several computer industry giants to Grant County. Grant PUD’s reliable low-cost power, access to fiber optic technology and the county’s reasonable land prices all figure into this rapid growth.

Education is a top priority in Grant County communities. Both public and private schools are available from early-childhood through secondary levels. Advancement possibilities through Big Bend Community College allow college students to pursue several associate degree options as well as a number of university degrees offered locally through partnerships with several regional universities.
