As
part of the objective of achieving at least 95% survival of Anadromous salmonid
smolts passing Wanapum Dam, the Grant County Public Utility District plans
to provide an alternative passage route that affords the opportunity for smolts
to bypass the turbines.
The Future Unit Fish Bypass (FUFB) consists of a 290 foot long chute with
an opening of 18.5 foot and an exit width of 90 feet. The “chute” will
carry a bypass flow of 20,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). Vertical and inclined
gates will make it possible to set lower flow rates.
Project Started June 1, 2005
Anticipated Completion December 2007
Nominal full bypass flow of 20,000 cfs
Finished opening through concrete is 18.5 feet wide
Length of 290 feet from upstream to downstream end
Exit chute width of 90 feet |
