Resourceful utilization
of water flowing within the Columbia Basin irrigation
system made it possible for a collaboration that has
created additional energy resources for local farmers.
The Quincy Chute is a small hydroelectric generating
facility located on one of the main irrigation canals
operated by a consortium of local irrigation districts.
Quincy Chute has a rated generating capacity of 9,400
kilowatts. The facility operates during the
irrigation season from March through October.
Under agreement with irrigation partners, the Grant
County PUD financed, designed and constructed the Quincy
Chute Project. Grant PUD began commercial operation
of the project under a 40-year agreement on October
1, 1985. The Quincy Chute Project is owned and licensed
by the Grand Coulee Project Hyroelectric Authority.
